Credit where due, we were tipped off to the Rockwell by Tablet Hotels, whose budget recommendations can be some of the best deals going. At under £100 in London territory, the price/quality ratio can be pretty poor, so the Rockwell was a great surprise.  It offers comfortable rooms best described as ‘warm minimalist’ – creme paint, blond wood, one wallpapered wall to give things a bit of life.

The singles are quite small, but you’re in the middle of Kensington, a 15 minute walk from the Natural History Museum and the V&A. It’s also walking distance to the Olympia and Earl’s Court Exhibition halls.
