Wild Wales Navigation Classes & Walking Tours, Llanberis, Wales
After doing an off-the-grid hike in northern Norway, we decided we should really learn how to navigate properly before we wandered around in any more really remote places. We tried three times to take navigation (as in map & compass) classes in the Netherlands; after the third one was cancelled for lack of interest we started look further afield.
Perhaps if the Netherlands had Snowdonia, around which the good folks at Wild Wales run their courses, more Dutch would have signed up. It’s a spectacular setting, offering a great mix of landscapes. By the end of our two-day course, we were both feeling much more confident about finding our way around. We’re hardly Ray Mears, but having the basics of navigation now available is a great feeling. Our course leader, Ann, has hiked more or less everywhere. She’s an excellent teacher, limiting the theory to just what’s necessary, and then getting you outside to practice. It’s a great way to spend a weekend.
Wild Wales staff also offer a variety of other courses and tours on navigation, hiking and walking. Whatever your interest, you’ll be in good hands.
